Rem (レム, Remu) is the Shinigami who gives Misa Amane her Death Note. Like Ryuk, Rem possesses two Death Notes; however, Rem did not get hers through trickery. The Shinigami Gelus, who had fallen in love with Misa, sacrificed himself to kill her destined murderer. In doing so he was reduced to dust, leaving only his Death Note. After several Shinigami had mentionied that Ryuk had been gone for some time, and that they wondered what he was up to, Rem volunteered to go check on him. To do so, Rem delivered Gelus' Death Note to Misa, since it was her life he saved. It is not known when Rem herself begins to develop feelings for Misa.
Rem's appearance is quite skeletal, with long, spinal cord-like arms and bone-like skin. In the manga and anime, Rem tells Misa that she is actually a female Shinigami. In the second live-action film, this is not mentioned, leaving it ambiguous. She is also given a more masculine voice. Rem is voiced by Kimiko Saitō in the Japanese anime and Colleen Wheeler in the English dub. In the film, she is voiced by Shinnosuke Ikehata in Japanese, with Michael Dobson (who also voiced Gelus in the anime) replacing Wheeler in the English version.

General InformationEdit General Information sectionEdit

While Ryuk takes amusement in everything in the human world, Rem is almost the exact opposite. She views most humans with contempt, seeing Shinigami as the more evolved race. Also, while Ryuk is ambivalent to Light's success or failure, Rem actively assists Misa. This makes her equally as guilty as Ryuk of not displaying 'proper' traits for a Shinigami to have. She is even willing to sacrifice her life to defend Misa, as evidenced by her threat to kill Light should Misa die before her time. For Misa's sake, however, she still assists Light in his schemes. Death Note: How to Read 13 said Rem "supposedly" experiences difficulty while writing the Japanese language.
Light manages to force Rem into killing L for him by presenting a situation in which harm would come to Misa otherwise. As such, she dies when she writes L's name. In the second movie, Rem declares her love for Misa and her spite for Light moments before her death. While her Death Note is left behind in the manga and anime, she burns it in the film out of spite.
Obata said that Rem is his favorite Shinigami since she is a Shinigami and "a good person."

Conception and Design of RemEdit Conception and Design of Rem sectionEdit

Obata said that when he heard that Rem was female, he decided to create a design contrasting with Ryuk's design, using a white body with "rounder" lines. He says that he used fashion collections to create her motif. He described her resulting appearance as if she wore a "really bizarre suit." Obata said that Medusa inspired the design of Rem's head.

quincy

Uryū Ishida
Uryū Ishida (石田 雨竜 Ishida Uryū?) is a Quincy, descendant of a line of priest-like hollow-hunting archers who were historical enemies of the Soul Reapers.[n 1] He bears a deep grudge against all Soul Reapers, including Ichigo, and is an early antagonist in the series.[18] He comes to view Ichigo differently over time, however, eventually becoming a valuable ally and friendly rival.[19] He is voiced by Noriaki Sugiyama in Japanese and Derek Stephen Prince in English.
<span class="fullpost"> Quincy
Quincy (滅却師(クインシー) Kuinshī?) are a clan of humans who, over many centuries, became spiritually aware. In doing so they devised their own brand of spiritual powers; they most commonly reshape spiritual particles into various types of bow and arrows, but can also concentrate spiritual energy into the form of swords or explosives. At their height, Quincies used their powers to combat the hollows, protecting the inhabitants of the human world with a success rate greater than that of the Soul Reapers. Unlike the Soul Reapers, who purify the souls of hollows allowing them to rest in peace, Quincy destroyed the hollow, soul and all. This created an imbalance between the worlds of the living and the dead, threatening to destroy the universe. To prevent this, the Soul Reapers almost exterminated the Quincy, leaving only two Quincy to survive into the current Bleach storyline and creating a great animosity between the two groups.[18] Tite Kubo created the Quincy as rivals to the Soul Reapers, resulting in long-range weapons as a counter to the standard Soul Reaper zanpakuto and white clothing as an antithesis to the black Soul Reaper uniform. Their name stems from their symbol, a five-pointed star, and the prefix "quin," meaning "five," as well as Kubo's liking for the phrase "Quincy archer."[4]
The only two surviving Quincies are Ryūken Ishida (石田 竜弦 Ishida Ryūken?, romanized as "Ryūgen" in Bleach Official Character Book SOULs and other Japanese sources) and his son Uryū Ishida. Ryūken is portrayed as a bitter and cold Quincy who detests his own people, believing them to be wasting their time training their abilities. However, he is soon discovered to be extremely powerful (as he needed just one shot to destroy a Menos when defending his son; it hints that he may rival or exceed the power of a captain) and possess many of the lost or stolen artifacts of the Quincies (some of the new weapons that Ishida currently uses are "borrowed" from his father). Ryūken, like his son, has ties with the shinigami (he is shown to have been acquainted/friends with Isshin Kurosaki)[43] Another known Quincy is Sōken Ishida (石田 宗弦 Ishida Sōken?), the father of Ryūken and the grandfather of Uryū. He trained Uryū in Quincy abilities throughout his childhood, becoming his mentor in the process. Sōken tried to make amends with Soul Reapers by advocating a new system of response to hollow attacks. His proposal was never accepted, and he was eventually killed in a hollow attack due to his old age (with Mayuri Kurotsuchi being responsible for not sending Soul Reapers to save him).[44][45]
